About Addresses in Dolores County

The county is divided into a block grid (address grid) using approximately one-mile increments.  Addresses are assigned 1000 address numbers per block grid and range numbers are assigned to every grid line.

Dolores County addresses increase from north to south and west to east.

  • The last digit of the address contains an odd or even number representing which direction the driveway is located.
  • Odd numbers are located on the west and north sides and even are located on the east and south sides of the road.

For our address system to work properly the roads are named according to our address grid.

Dolores County Roads are comprised of numbered and lettered roads.

  • Numbered roads are north/south roads numbered from the UT/CO State Line from west to east
  • Lettered Roads are East/West roads.
    • Starts at San Miguel County Line to Montezuma County Line

Addresses along the state highways are addressed according to the closest mile marker number.

Hwy 491

  • Mile marker numbers on Hwy 491 range from MM 50 near the Dolores/Montezuma County Line to MM 68 near the CO/UT State Line.
